
Instructor: Prof. Gundega Jākobsone
Prof. Gundega Jākobsone is a D.D.S., Dr.med.sc, Dr.philos., MOrthRCSEd. She graduated cum laude in Dentistry (DDS) at the Riga Medical Academy, Latvia, in 1995. She received postgraduate training and Doctor of the Medical sciences (Dr.med.sc.) at the Riga Stradins University, Latvia. In 2014 she defended her thesis for the degree of Dr.Philos. at the Oslo University. She holds a Membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh from 2003. Presently she is an Assistant Professor and the Head of the Department of Orthodontics, Riga Stradins University, Latvia and works at a private practice once a week. Prof. Jākobsone has published several articles in the international orthodontic journals in the field of orthognathic surgery, 3D evaluation of the upper airways, 3D facial scans and treatment with fixed functional appliances. The studies were conducted in cooperation with several universities worldwide. She has served as a reviewer in several peer-reviewed journals, and lectured in conferences in Latvia and internationally. Her clinical interests include autotransplantation of teeth, and management of dental trauma.
