Distalization is one of orthodontics’ most commonly used methods to gain space by moving posterior teeth distally.
For many years maxillary molar distalization has been successfully used in orthodontics to treat many cases, most notably cases with class II malocclusion, to relieve crowding and reduce the increased overjet.  On the other hand, another widespread method to gain the needed space and treat the above-mentioned issues is extraction, the most common being premolar extraction.

In aligner therapy, with the incorporation of 3D planning, sequential movements and precise movement control, distalization has been proven to be one of the most predictable movements even though some practitioners still doubt its effectiveness. However, there are also many contraindications for distalization when it shouldn’t be performed or the movement predictability will be low. In such scenarios, extractions might be a more viable option.

In this webinar experienced orthodontists, Dr. Jurga Liatukiene and Dr. Vincenzo D’Antò will discuss the possible utilization of distalization and extractions in aligner therapy. The speakers will present proven protocols for distalizations and clinical situations where extractions might be the best option.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • What are the indications and contraindications for distalization in aligner therapy?
  • When should the doctor choose distalization or extraction for space opening and Class II malocclusion treatment?
  • How to improve the predictability of distalization?
